Safety
and Burn Times
- Remove all packaging before lighting.
- Always burn candles on
a protected, heat-resistent, surface securely placed on a appropriate
holder. Other than jar candles all candles
are susceptible to dripping.
- If smoke is visible, check for any foreign
matter in the pool of wax the might be enlarging the flame. In
this case, extinguish the flame, remove the debris and trim the
wick to 1⁄4”. A draft can also
cause a candle to smoke. The Wickman tool and the Wick Trimmer
sold in our accessories category is designed to make this easier
and more efficient.
- Extinguish candles by carefully dipping the wick
into the liquid wax with the Wickman tool. This instrument
will not catch fire. Once
the flame is out, recenter the wick. Blowing out the candles
is not recommended as the liquid wax may splatter and the wick
may continue to burn and emit smoke. In
the case of jars, do not replace the lid while burning.
- Containers
may become hot, handle with care.
- Many of our candles have safety
features which cause the wick to self extinguish prior to consuming
all the wax. This is a unique
feature designed to prevent flare-ups of any residual carbon
at the base of the candle
and to keep container candles cooler.
- Laying a fragranced or
colored candle on furnishings can cause surface damage.
- Candles
burned close to one another will affect burning quality due to
the combined heat. When creating decorative arrangements,
make sure the candles are not touching and are laying evenly
on the container.
- Candles may smell like food, they are not edible.
- Never
leave burning candles unattended and out of reach of children
and pets.
Jars
- Handle with care, container may become hot. Avoid glass-to-glass
contact when removing or replacing lid. Do not use if cracked,
chipped, or scratched. Do
not refill with wax.
- Never allow the flame to come
in direct contact with the side of the container. Keep
wick trimmed to 1⁄4” using
the Wick Trimmer, and centered: reposition as needed
by moving wick back to
center with the Wickman
Tool.
- Avoid drafts or excessive vibrations. Extinguish
the flame before trimming the wick.
- If the jar becomes
blackened while burning, clean with a paper towel after the candle
has been extinguished and cools. The blackening my be
prevented by keeping the wick trimmed to 1⁄4” while
burning.
- Discontinue us when 1⁄2’ of
wax remains. This will
prevent possible heat damage to the counter or
surface.
- Wax and water don’t mix. If a candle is exposed to
moisture, it may not relight. Don’t leave uncovered
candles outdoors overnight.
- Extinguish carefully
before replacing the lid.
Votive Candles
- Votive candles are designed to liquefy while burning
and must be used in an appropriate sized container. The
inside of the container should be of similar size to the votive
to achieve maximum burn time.
- Add 1/8" of water
to container to make container easier to clean. The water
will allow the wax to be removed
without a problem.
Pillar Candles
- Always burn pillars on an appropriate holder, never
directly on furniture.
- Recommended burn time for the first time
is 6 hours, and then 3-4 hours thereafter. This
process allows the wax
pool to reach the candles edge providing even burning throughout
the life of the candle.
- Always maintain a minimum of 4” distance
between pillars in an arrangement.
Tapers
- Be certain taper candles are set firmly and upright in their
holders
- To prevent possible dripping: avoid drafts, excessive
vibrations or nearby heat
sources.
- In relighting a partially burned candle, never straighten the
wick. It
should be curved
to burn properly.
- Candles may drip when burned in hurricane or glass globes due
to the degree of heat. To
provide ventilation
slightly raise
the globe from
it base
( a penny works
fine) to allow
cool air to
enter from the
bottom .
